Results more important than process
The principal complaint about the Washington Redskins selection that is making the rounds is that they didn't "apply to" the defensive stripe. It's a complaint heard almost every year as the Redskins do in most cases ignore the D-streak during the annual election meeting.
Of race, Rob Jackson of Kansas Category, the defensive end that the Redskins took in the seventh circular in the last dozen picks might take shade to such remarks, but nobody is expecting big things out of him, in all probability not even Mr. and Mrs. Jackson.
Not since 1997, when they tabbed Kennard Lang in the first circular, have the Skins used their first pick for a defensive lineman. Since then the first streak of defense has current very limited selection-day attention in the conformation of late-circular draft picks of a piece Anthony Montgomery and Kedric Golston.
A humorous thing has happened during the duration that the Redskins have been neglecting the defensive streak on the last weekend in April. The defense has been pleasing without being striking good. Not indispensably great, not in the ascendant, but good enough to win with.
How serviceable? Starting with the 2000 period of the year, the Redskins defense has been ranked 7, 13, 21, 24, 5, 9, 27, and 11 in points allowed. In those eight years they've been in the top 10 three spells and in the top half of the coalition a total of five seasons.
Whatever method the Redskins are using to make defensive players has been laboring. To worry about where they have acquired their personnel is to be concerned with course over results.
The Redskins have not been ordinary this decade because of their defense. They have struggled because they harbor't been able to mark points. In that same eight-year eighth of a fathom, from 2000-2007 their NFL rankings in sharp end scored have been 24, 28, 25, 22, 31, 13, 20, and 18. They port't been in the top 10 once and they were in the bottom moiety of the league in seven of the eight years.
That sounds to me analogous a team that indispensably to score more points. They have a ways to go here to move from being august to merely run of the mill.
