[Insert a Wright Pun]

Savannah Mirisola-Sullivan
Well, after some feedback on my last pillar, I decided that I should scribble a slightly less snarky and in the tantrums post on the whole Wright concern. Here's my beef with Wright-gate: there's no conception, aside from a fucked-up relation, that this is a story. Moreover, attempts to use Wright's port--and Obama's reply to that behavior--as a way to justice Obama's candidacy are freighted with fallacy at superlatively good, racial dog-whistling at put down.
To show you where I'm coming from, I'll give a sampling Wright-gate arguments. I'll startle with the most inane and move to the least. Here's Wright-gate 1:
1. Rev. Wright has some extremist (and exceptionable) views.
2. Rev. Wright was Sen. Obama's confidential friend and pastor for twenty some years.
3. Obama has the extremist views that Wright has.
Let's undertake, for the moment, that we've seperated out those extremest views and positions Wright indeed holds (for archetype, praise for Farrakhan and AIDS plot theories) from those he doesn't (Hannity's bizzare claims that Wright is a black schismatic and hates America). We'll license in the untrue, but understandable, conviction that Wright doesn't much worry for America (a doubtful position making allowance for that Wright served in Korea).
With these assumptions attached, there would be conception to suspect Obama may clinch at least a milder fashion these views. However, when compared with Obama's actions, policies, and articulated beliefs, it seems pellucid that he doesn't. Obama, for copy, clearly isn't an AIDS machination believer, nor does he dislike intensely America. Obama's word is polar facing from Farrakhan's and there is no conception to suspect that Wright's overtly national stances have rubbed off on Obama, making allowance for the statements, carriage, and tenor of Sen. Obama and his campaign.
