I deficiency to discuss the end of the Suns period of the year, and their future.
First, let's get something consummately straight, consummately squared from home.
The Suns lonesome showing against the Spurs - the NBA's most good playoff team hands down - is not Mike D'Antoni's imperfection.
For this playoff deprivation, blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the players, especially Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal. Don't get me wrongful, I love Nash and STAT always. But they implacable apart, and in sport three, they quit. They acquit Carmelo-diction. And in games one and five, when triumph was in their hands, they choked Tracy McGrady circular one-style.
For the fall of the Suns construction, blame rests squarely on the shoulders of possessor Robert Sarver. If Sarver had not been so anxious of paying the epicurism tax for a few seasons, and had not traded absent all of our solid role players and drawing picks in regularity to avoid it, the Suns as a team would have been in a good in a higher degree position for result. Of this I have no doubt.
The Suns gave Seattle Kurt Thomas and selection picks in trade for cash, and then he ended up on the Spurs. Whoops. They traded from home Rajon Rondo, who is with celerity becoming a solid sharp end guard who excels at defense (a completed back-up for Nash). They traded absent the pick that could have gotten them either Igoudala (a firm defensive swingman), or Luol Deng (a centerpiece of Chicago's privilege now).
That would be the Suns lineup had they only paid the luxuriousness tax for a few seasons, and, as Simmons argues, it'd be a dear to win the championship.
So can D'Antoni be blamed for only playing a 7 or 8 man course round? No, not when the guys on the end of the seat are Sean Marks, Alando Tucker (rookie), D.J. Strawberry (rookie) and Eric Piatkowski. Not against the Spurs, no way.
Can D'Antoni be blamed for not emphasizing defense? I say no, not when your sharp end guard is reverend at it, your best pleader wasn't blest and was going...
