Mussina and the bullpen step up
If you watched yesterday's sport, you didn't perceive well throughout. There was a lefty named "Laffey" on the hill, Mike Mussina was pitching and the Yankees were no-hit through five innings. Mussina was acute early on, but the Indians' bats were fabrication him work and in the bottom of the fifth, Cleveland broke through for two runs on mostly yielding singles.
That would be the topic for the game.
The top of the sixth brought one of the more unheard of rallies I've ever witnessed. Melky Cabrera hit a leadoff sole and Derek Jeter followed it up with one of his own. With two on and nobody out, Bobby Abreu hit a keen single to left tract of land to load the bases. After the round body barely traveled a combined 300 feet in the inning, Alex Rodriguez was hit by a degree of elevation and back to back groundouts to first (I can't fancy why the infield wasn't in with Laffey pitching to impressible contact) gave the Yankees a 3-2 guide. Morgan Ensberg then followed that up with yet another infield one only, to the pitcher, to put New York onward 4-2. Four singles (three that didn't see the outfield) two surface of land outs and a hit batter built the Yankees' four run restore to order. Matsui would add an assurance RBI double later on to circular out the Bombers' scoring. The actually being story here was the bullpen. In my last column I mentioned that relievers would necessity to step up with Brian Bruney out, much allied hitters such as Melky Cabrera, Johnny Damon and other endowments of the lineup would urgency to account for Jorge Posada's absense. Yesterday, everybody did their part.
The united states Albaladejo pitched a scoreless sixth, allowing runners to extend the corner before ending the inning with a strikeout. Of a piece Ohlendorf, Albaladejo is in one's teens, but has great raw material. The former throws a impure slider and a mid 90's fastball, the latter has a refulgent curve and also throws a rigid splitter and a fastball. Either one can rise into a seventh inning role, or even as the setup man if Joba Chamberlain is ever moved into the course round this season. ...
