What makes a set actually great? Are there clear as day things vast sets own that lesser sets do not? If a herculean set is the product of former years’ evolving, then shouldn’t earlier years be considered herculean as well? Just what is it that pushes the herculean set to a higher level? I’ve asked myself these questions a tell of times while penmanship this countdown. And while their answers are unyielding to pin down in the majority of cases (because there are very sets that rest on the feet apart from the package), 1992 Topps is distinct: There’s more than one thing that elevates it to size.
 In 1991, Topps debuted gold circumvent stamping on some of the subset cards in the Sagittary set. (Topps also added a little gold thwart check palm tree intonation to a miniscule measure of its flagship and sent them to throngs as part of their Desert Buckler distribution program.) Pleasing in a footnote amiable of way, the gold defeat itself didn’t add much to overall card concoct. If anything, it was a ‘hey, direct the eye what we can do’ generous of thing. That changed for 1992, which saw Topps become greater its gold defeat stamp quotient exponentially, resulting in the Topps Gold cheap set parallel. And though Gold technically wasn’t the first duration Topps had done a cheap set parallel (the Tiffany sets of the 1980s were Topps’ first pure parallel sets), it was the first equidistant throughout randomly inserted in packs (Topps Tiffany cards had been to be turned to account only as complete, residence of factors-sealed sets).
