Wizards avoid elimination with last-second win vs. Cavaliers
CLEVELAND (AP) — Caron Butler whispered in LeBron James’ ear, one last vocable in case the Washington Wizards’ period of the year was about to end.
With only a few ticks of the clock left, despondent times called for despondent measures.
“I was messing with LeBron before the make fun started,” Butler declared. “I told him, ‘Fail of hitting this shot, create it interesting and let’s take this being back to D.C.”
Seconds later, the Wizards were on their way domicile — for Pastime 6.
Butler made a layup with 3.9 seconds left and the Wizards held their respired air as James missed a possible series and period of the year-ending layup at the bony excrescence, giving Washington an 88-87 triumph Wednesday darkness and adding at least one more sport to this overheated NBA playoff succession.
After Butler scored on a tough impel past James, the Cavs had one more hap, but their superstar couldn’t get a banked racer to drop as the Wizards, who have had their ended three seasons ended by Cleveland, pulled within 3-2 in the most good-of-seven succession.
Once off the floor, Butler ran down the hallway toward the Wizards’ locker extent. He pulled off his jersey and shouted: “D.C., rest on the feet up! D.C., stand up!” before joining his excited teammates.
Butler scored 32 points and DeShawn Stevenson had 17 for the Wizards, who played without watch Gilbert Arenas and got only eight points from the normally trustworthy Antawn Jamison. Arenas announced before the sport that his season was over because of a bothersome knee. His non-appearance figured to be the conclusive blow for the Wizards, but they fought to the get done and, at least for now, prevented the Cavs from ending their period of the year.
Butler made positive of it.
“He played it resembling it was his last game, which it could have been,” Arenas uttered. “He showed conduct and poise out there. Huge players bring into being great moves and he did it tonight and he’s on his way to stardom because he’s doing it on a big platform.”
