“One once asked me if I ever went up to the layer trying to hit a domicile run. I said, ‘Assured, every time.’” - Mickey Mantle
Mickey Mantle (”The Mick”) is one of the most well known players to make merry the game. The card to the left might be one of the most well known cards other than the remarkable Honus Wagner T-206 card. He was an impulse player on the Yankees almost from day one. He did not caper well in his first stint in the majors. He thinking that he played so badly that he absolutely called his dad to give him a ride domicile. His dad talked him into sticking it out, and we all benefited from that settlement.
Upon returning to the majors he changed his numerate from #6 to #7. He did not cognate being in line with the Yankee greats that held the song leading up to six. In his first period of the year he made it to the World Course playing not crooked field. Another ample center fielder of that procreation, Willie Mays, was also playing in his first Nature Series. Mickey suffered a race threatening knee wrong in the Series when center fielder Joe DiMaggio called him off at the last next to the first. That knee combined with other injuries would back him the rest of his course.
In 1952 DiMaggio abstracted, and Mantle moved to center tract of land where he would stay until 1967. 1956 might have been The Mick’s most good year. He hit .353 with 52 abiding-place runs, and 130 RBI’s on his way to engaging the Major Alliance Triple Diadem. He also was approaching the Nursling’s one only season domicile run record with Roger Maris in 1961 when his period of the year was cut short by wrong.
He was well known for his residence runs. He hit enough lengthy shots that the expression ‘tape standard home run’ was coined because of him. The most eminent of these was hit on April 17, 1953 at Griffith Stadium. He hit a round part that was estimated to be 565 feet. Another extinct elephant shot was hit on September 6, 1960. He hit a globe that cleared the rectilinear field cover at Tiger Stadium. Years later a chronicler determined that the globe traveled 643 feet.
